Created in 1997, the GT Championship Series features two-door Grand Touring sports cars manufactured for the road, and modified for the track. Among others, manufacturers include Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. Races are held on street / road courses in top locations around the world, can range from 2-24 hours in length, and can incorporate two or three driver changes. The GT Championship races two classes of vehicles across Europe, and is a fan-friendly series with an open-paddock policy. The 2009 season will see a new venue added to the schedule: the Algarve International Raceway in Portugal.
