Welcome back, race fans! Here’s the second itinerary for your summer race vacation. In case you didn’t catch our first racing vacation itinerary, make sure you don’t miss out. This time there’s a few more miles to cover, but the timing’s great as it kicks off on the 4th of July. Nothing better than tailgating on Independence Day weekend! Depending on your starting point, we’ve got two ways for you to start this vacation…so let the racing begin!
TRIP ITINERARY #2
Race Leagues to see: IRL, NASCAR Sprint, Grand-Am Koni / Rolex
Trip Locations: New York (or Florida), Illinois, Alabama
Trip Dates: July 5 – July 19
Stop 1: July 5 2009: IRL Camping World Grand Prix at the Glen (Get Watkins Glen Tickets)
The legendary Watkins Glen International track in New York State is hosting this year’s IRL Independence Day weekend race. Get there a few days early to catch practice and qualifying for this Sunday race.
Alternate Stop 1: July 4 2009: NASCAR Sprint Coke Zero 400 in Daytona Beach (Get Daytona Beach Tickets)
NASCAR on the 4th of July! This Saturday race takes place at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It’s a double-header: be sure to catch the Grand Am Brumos Porsche 250 running on the same day.
Stop 2: July 11 2009: NASCAR Sprint LifeLock.com 400 in Chicago (Get Chicagoland Tickets)
The next stop on the race itinerary takes you to the Chicagoland Speedway in Chicago, Illinois. A bit of a drive if you’re coming from Florida—make sure you take the Easterly route through the Carolinas so you can take the westerly way back down to Alabama for the next stop.
Stop 3: July 17-19 2009: Grand Am race at Barber Motorsports Park (Get Barber Motorsports Park Tickets)
The final stop in this leg takes you to Birmingham, Alabama to Barber Motorsports Park. Both the Rolex and Koni series are racing this weekend, so there’ll be no shortage of action.
That wraps up Element of Speed’s second race vacation itinerary. Stay tuned for the final “edition” that will feature races in August.
